OK all you New York area Road Devils, me & Mrs A32 are heading East to the Big Apple in October 2007 for about 7 days....
Whats happening?
What do we NEED to see?
All help appreciated. :D
I have Indian Larry's shop, Grand Central, Chrysler Building, Empire State & Ground Zero on the itinerary so far, would also maybe think about heading to Montgomery to check out the Fire Museum & the clowns at OCC if the new "World HQ" is finished.
Hey,
there is so much to see the list would be 5 pages long. the best thing to do is to walk around the city. you can go to some great Neighborhoods- little italy, chinatown, soho, east village. there are some great restaurants and Bars. when you come out we'll have to meet up and take you and the wife around. we'll teach you how get around to all the tourist spots. the subway is real easy once you know what to look for.
don't forget about the art.
dependig on when you go, visit my buddy's gallery:

it's on west 20th between 10th and 11th.
low brow art at it's finest, and i'm not just saying that!
if you apply now, you can get tickets to a taping of the letterman show also.
they're usually booked a couple months out, but i have been able to get tix on shorter notice.
where are you guys staying?

I kinda figured it would be a big list...thanks for the 'guided tour offer' will have to arrange something closer to the time.
Growing up in London, I'm pretty good on the trains, and I seem to recall something about the NY system being modeled on the London one??

One place I really wanna find is the house my Mum lived in on Long Island, she moved from Ireland when she was 15 to live with her uncle & stayed 7 years, then moved to England...and the rest as they say, is history...and here I am now, living in California :D

I know, but I couldn't think of a better way of wording it....
Apart to add....it was by the washbasins...NOT the business end of the bathrooms!!

sounds like you're getting good advice so far. I have only done NYC once and just ended up using the subway all the time and spending my time in Lower East side, Chinatown, Greenwich village etc. All of it was great. Not sure I got to see much of the "tourist" stuff but who cares. I went to the Empire State, saw the line and left. Ground zero was pretty somber all alone on a Sunday morning. I did go the Dakota and see a little of Central Park. Lots of good food. I went to the Rodeo Bar cuz somebody recommended but I was not impressed with the line dancing. Checked out Hotel Chelsea for the history forgot to go back and see Rocky Horror at midnight nearby. Overall way too much to see in a few days but way too fun not to try.
