So here I am minding my own business on a local motorcycle forum (gotta do it for work), and I meet this guy named Dave. I was thinking that I was the only car guy on this particular board, and low and behold here is this kick ass limey (No offense Dave. You can gut punch me on the 9th if deserved) talking to me about everything that I WANT to be talkin' about. So now I'm here.
So, long story not so short, I've I've been haunting some some of the "other" forums for a few years, and I gotta say, you guys have a good thing going here. I have been in the motorcycle industry for years. I've owned a small batch of old steel starting with the car I learned to drive in, a '55 Chevy Apache wide window, a '54 Olds 88 (that affair ended far too short), a '67 Chevelle that a high school buddy and myself built (he still has it), and finally a '57 T-Bird that I bought and built for a girlfriend (ex-girlfriend, hard lesson learned there).
I have recently found myself in a position where I am able to pay my rent and bills on time, and get three squares a day, so it's time I end that and start another project. I recently put my hands on a '51 Packard that I love like only a mother could love an ugly child. I don't have any good pics of it during the day, but I'll throw up what I have.
Glad to be here and get to know some of ya.

These computers make my head hurt. Call me a ludite. I have yet to figure out how to post multiple pics. Bear with me.
Like I said; a face only a mother could love.

About time you got here Dan, welcome to the nut house, you'll fit right in just fine...
Guys, Dan's been out spreading the word about Scarlett Fever, he printed up a bunch of show flyer's & went wandering round San Francisco the other night delivering them. He also wants to assist at the show.

And here's what I'm thinkin' minus the two door conversion. I just plain don't have the skills for that.
All right Dave. There's my intro. BRING THE ABUSE!! I'll keep the bandages and ointment close at hand.http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj187/psychosuede/PackardcustomversionII.jpg

Like Dave said, I want to throw in in any way I can. I have yet to meet Scarlett, but I can't imagine how anyone wouldn't want to do whatever they could for her.
I'm doin' what I can locally and on some of the "other" forums, but when it comes to the day of the show, I am a large man that has capacity to lift large objects, sooo... any help needed on setting up, loading in bands, or security (I used to work the door at the DNA funnily enough), I'm am stoked to help in any way I can.
On the same note, if any of you, or friends, are coming in from out of town and don't want to spend the cabbage on a hotel, I have a purty nice house in the city with two very comfortable couches and PLENTY of floor space.
You can get ahold of me at psychosuede31@hotmail.com or 415-774-6153.
All are welcome.

Oh yeah. Here's me. Again, a bad shot and I don't normally wear glasses, but it is what it is.

I like the Packard but then I have a particular liking for that kind of thing. I don't think it's ugly at all...definitely has some artistic interest in that front end there.

yeah dude, you're right. that car is butt ugly (leave it alone dale!).
better if you just let me have that center grille bar/turn signal assembly to ease some of the ugliness. that would make it look better...kinda like a whale feeding on krill with out it.
hell dude, that pack has 2 1/2 tons of possibilities written all over it. BUT, that grille bar would look cool in my truck...what a super idea it gave me.
anywhos...welcome to the insanity.
later dude

i just looked some more and on a serious note...replace the turn signals with some small bright headlights that would fit in the openings and it would make a cool grille assembly for the front of my truck.
opinions please???

To me it looks like youve got a solid foundation to start. sometimes the odd cars make the coolest rods. Just dont hack it into a mad max movie car and enjoy driving it around.

Agreed. I'm not even sure about the chop, but I do like the looks of a mild one. I'm not gonna go too nuts. Put it on bags and make her pretty again with some paint & interior.

That sounds like a good plan, make sure it is the car you want before you spend too much time and or money on a chop. Once you know that you want to keep the car for a while then you can start doing things like that. I have seen too many cars left unfinished because of people getting in too deep and deciding they didn't want to spend the resources to finish a car they could have been driving and having fun in.

You are absolutely right. I am not firmly convinced that I'm going to go ahead with the chop, but I have bonded with this car more than I have with any other vehicle (and I've had a few counting my bikes) in a long damn time.
I'm gonna take it slow. It's gonna be driven for quite a while before I start to do anything that will take it off the road for any length of time.

I love packard's don't see em much that's prolly why i like em. Look forward to seeing the progress and welcome.
Welcome, Dan, I too love Packards.
I'm building a '56 Chrysler kustom and grafting the rear quarters, taillights and bumper off of a '56 Packard for a more "extended look." Talk about an oddball!
Keep working on yours it has style, class and much potential.
